Every time a cardholder enters their 16‑digit number at checkout, the first six digits silently steer the transaction toward a specific set of rules. Those six digits — the Bank Identification Number, or BIN — tell the merchant’s system which bank issued the card, what type of card it is, and increasingly, whether the transaction
